Returns, Cancellations and Exchanges

A positive customer experience is of utmost importance to the team at Modern Komfort. We make every effort to select and sell high-quality products from reputable brands, that you will love for many years. We do our best to keep up-to-date information on all our products so that you may make informed purchases and we encourage you to reach out to us with any questions at info@modernkomfort.ca so we can help you in selecting the perfect piece or to discuss lead times.

Order Modifications & Cancellations

We continue to strive to meet delivery dates, but due to global supply chain challenges, we are experiencing unprecedented delays across all lines. Please know that we will continue to do everything we can to get your items shipped to you as soon as possible, but due to circumstances outside of our control we are not able to accept returns or cancellations for delayed shipments. Thank you for your understanding and patience. 

Please contact us within 24 hours of placing your order should you need to cancel or modify it. If the order has already been shipped from our warehouse or the manufacturer, we are unable to cancel or make changes, even if you have not yet received your tracking number. Custom orders cannot be modified or canceled after 24 hours of placing your order.

Please Note: For backordered items we will communicate with you on the lead time at the time of ordering. Once estimated timelines have been communicated to you, these items are not eligible for cancellation after 24hrs. Should the backorder date be extended beyond the agreed timeline, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you. 

Orders cancelled after 24 hours will be charged a 5% processing fee.

Returns

We understand that you may change your mind and need to return an item. To that end, we have made our return options as clear as possible. We have limitations on returns due to cost and sustainability. 

Many item(s) are eligible for a return within 14 days of receipt for a refund or store credit of the purchase price minus a 15% restocking fee and excluding original shipping costs. Return shipping is your responsibility and we do not provide return shipping labels. 

Once the item(s) are received, back to our location they will be inspected to ensure they are unused and in original condition and packaging. Your refund or store credit will be processed within 3-5 business days of receipt.

All returns require pre-authorization, so please contact us to receive instructions prior to sending back your merchandise. Return shipping is your responsibility and we do not provide return shipping labels.  

Items Eligible for Return:

  • Small Decor (no restocking fee applied)
  • Pillow Covers/Pillows (no restocking fee applied)
  • Plug-in Lighting
  • Small-size furniture (side tables, poufs, ottomans, and items under 15lbs)
  • Rugs
  • Clothing (no restocking fee applied)
  • *Please note that rug sample returns are eligible for store credit only

Ineligible Items for Return:

  • Custom or made to order items (including all custom upholstery), including art and furniture (please measure your space before ordering)
  • Bedding (duvet covers, sheets, coverlets)
  • Artwork & Mirrors
  • Hardwired Lighting
  • Large Furniture (sofas, beds, dining tables, armchairs, cabinets, sideboards, large coffee tables, and any other items over 15lbs)
  • Dining chairs and counter/bar stools
  • Holiday/Seasonal decor 
  • Floor model, open box, clearance and final sale items
  • Items damaged through normal wear, such as sun exposure, humidity, or other natural factors
  • Normal wear and tear on upholstery (including pilling)

*Returns for these items are not accepted as we do not have the storage space to keep large items and shipping costs are often much higher than what you have paid on your original order.

Items must be:

  • Postmarked within 14 days of receipt;
  • Unused & unassembled (if applicable);
  • In original packaging, complete with all tags, instructions, and inserts - we do not accept returns otherwise;
  • After the return is received, inspected and processed, you will be refunded the purchase price of the item(s) (less shipping costs) in the same form in which you paid for it, please allow 1-2 weeks processing time;
  • Actual shipping charges from your initial order will be deducted from your refund amount;
  • Customers are responsible for return shipping to either our Fredericton, NB location or our Ottawa, ON location. We do not provide return shipping labels or schedule the return shipment;
  • All returns are subject to a 15% restocking fee. 

Defects and Damages

Please submit our defect and damage claim form within 48 hours of delivery if your order arrives damaged in transit or has a manufacturers defect so that we can work quickly to ensure a satisfactory resolution.

*Important: Please be aware that resolutions can take 1-4 weeks and we kindly ask that all original packaging material be kept until notified.

For a small or large item with concealed damage please take several clear photos of the damaged product, original packaging, and packing materials in the box (foam, bubble wrap) that were used for protection.

For a large item with damaged packaging please inspect it thoroughly and report to the delivery driver any damages (tear, dents, etc.) to the box, take several photos and ensure the driver records damages prior to signing for the delivery. *If you do not make note of visible damage on the package, we cannot be responsible for product damage and may not be able to complete a replacement or credit. 

On rare occasions, a large item(s) can be extremely damaged, and they can be refused and returned to the delivery origin, immediately. In this case, please notify us immediately so that we can have an exact replacement product sent to you as soon as possible (depending on stock availability).

Please note that a claim for a manufacturers defect or damages that occur over time are only available within the first 6 months of receiving the item, after that period of time, we can no longer guarantee replacement or credit for this item. 

Please note natural materials including wood and marble have variations and/or veining, and their imperfections are not considered defects. As wood adapts to new climates and humidity, it can shift size and cause cracking. This again is not necessarily a defect of the product, but a beautiful reminder of its organic nature. 

Pilling on new upholstery is a natural occurrence and can sometimes happen when you first start using upholstered furniture and eventually may subside. It can also occur when certain fabrics from our clothes, blankets and pillows come into contact and cause friction. Due to these factors pilling is not considered a warranty issue with manufacturers.
